Trick Or Treat

Yesterday I attended The 31st Annual Halloween Parade In The Village. It was quite interesting, saw just about anything and everything. Besides the floats and bands, this is one parade where anyone can join in on the festivities. Anyone dress in a costume can march in and be part of the parade. There seemed to be a more political theme in this year’s parade for obvious reasons. A lot of people dressed up in Bush or Kerry costumes. But I think by far - the most non-political costumes were characters in the Kill Bill series. There were a lot of girls dressed as Uma Thurman in the yellow jumpsuit, that Japanese girl with the ball and chain, and numerous guys dressed as members of the Crazy 88s in their black suits, masks and swords. After the parade, I went and got a slice at Joe’s Pizza. If you have seen Spider Man 2, this is the pizza shop where Peter Parker worked at as a delivery boy before he was fired. They are planning to shut down that location in The Village because of the rising rent next month, so it was very cool and neat to eat in it before it closes it’s doors forever.

Well, tomorrow the big day is finally upon us. After months and months of debates, rhetoric, and campaigning – Election Tuesday is at hand. It seems like the only focus is being given to the so-called swing states, especially - Florida, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Just who are these people in these swing states anyway? Does this population really represent the whole nation? Probably not, but for now, all eyes are on these states that hold they keys to this election . Who would of thought that the retired Amish dairy farmers of the country will have the final say in who the next president is? Kinda weird, scary and unfair, but until they get rid of the electoral votes system and go with the popular vote – I guess that will have to do for now.

So whether you will vote for Bush or Kerry, - notice I did not say Nader – go out and do it. Don’t mean to offend the Nader supporters out there, but we have to be realistic here. He has NO CHANCE of winning, and to me – casting a vote for him makes no sense. To borrow words from the candidates - "This would be the wrong election, the wrong candidate, and the wrong time" to vote for Nader. This presidential election has been one of the most contested, heated and important one in many many years – so make your vote count. And whether the next four years is a Trick or Treat for you – that depends on you going out, doing your duty and casting that ballot for your candidate. So go out and vote!!!
