Watch out for the man hole covers!!

Well, yesterday - my two roommies and I went to see our free screening of Shaun Of The Dead. And as stupid as the title seems, it was quite a funny and interesting movie. It was made across the pond in the good ol' UK. I would definitely recommend it for people who likes a good laugh without much care of a plausible plot. The whole theather was just cracking up every few minutes. There were times when you couldn't hear the actors because everyone was laughing so loud - and yes, I admit, I was one of them. So yes go see it and definitely go see it for free if you can.

On a side note, when one of my roommates met us at the theater, he said he was late because there was a police incident on the subways. When we got home, come to find out it was because of exploding man hole covers. That is right, you read correctly - exploding man hole covers. Seems like there were gasses trapped underground which caused several explosions. Thank goodness it was not a terror attack, as was the thought of people close to the scene.

But anywho, Yippeee!!! I got my S500 Canon camera today. Can't wait to start taking pictures of The Big Apple. I will be taking it to Chicago and Indiana over the next 1 1/2 weeks. That's right boys and girls, sorry but there won't be a post here for the next week or so. I am heading out of town going on some recruiting trips at Notre Dame and Marquette. Take care and check back soon.

Cheers to all of yous.

Yawn..nothing but a free movie(hopefully) for today

Well, another day another dollar. Well actually, it is $2.85. Not too shabby right? But anywho….I finally broke down and bought something I’ve always wanted – a digital camera. After looking at several models, I decided to splurge and buy the Canon Powershot S500 with a 512mb kit all for the low price of $500. Yes, I know, I know – that is a little pricey. But I figured it has been awhile that I have bought something that I really wanted without concern for the price and so I pampered myself. It should be shipped out today and hopefully it will get here tomorrow or Thursday. The place is in Amityville, NY. And yes I think that’s the place where the horror movie was based out of. So it shouldn’t take more than a day or two to get here.

As for tonight, my roommate and I are going to a free screening of Shaun of The Dead. My email is only good for two, but I will see if I can sneak another roommate in. Hopefully, there will still be room when we get there. Kinda excited, never went to a free screening before. Well till tomorrow kiddos…

Check...Check...Check....and then some.

Well I had a very nice and much needed relaxing weekend. Ended up napping most of it away. That was one tiring week last week for me. So as to get back to last Friday – I went to my friend’s place and finally finished putting together her entertainment center. Can’t believe I did it all by myself. Then I headed down to the LES and walked towards the Italian restaurant that was our meeting place for a new social group I joined. About 10 of us showed up and everyone seemed very cool and nice. We all seemed to get along together well and had a very good dinner. Boy, it has just been one huge gorgefest for me last week. But anywho, about 6 of us decided to go to a local bar/lounge and hang out after dinner. Had a few drinks and danced the night away with the group. There were 3 guys and 3 gals and the gals were quite friendly and outgoing. Kinda got to know one girl in particular. She is pretty young and cute, early twenties – and had a chance to hang out for a little bit. She seemed interested, but I can’t say that I am ready to get exclusive yet(and she just seems a little too young). As a bonus, come to find out, her roommate is an HR person for JP Morgan/ Chase. Yes!!! So about 1:00 or so, we all kinda were tired from the long day at work, dinner, dancing and headed home on our separate ways. That was a really neat group. Didn’t get home until about 2:30 am and even tried to do my crossword puzzle before falling asleep at around 3:00 am or so. Had to say, haven't had a fun evening like this in a while.

So, going over my NYC checklist here. Trying to meet new people – check. Trying to make new friends – check. Trying to go to cool places – check. And lastly trying to build connections for when the time comes to get back to the real world – check. So all in all – a very successful night for Bob.

Bite Slowly And Use Those Big Soup Spoons.....

Well left early yesterday to put what I thought was a table but turned out to be an entertainment center together for my friend. However, it took a little longer than anticipated so I only got about half-way done. Gotta go back and finish later tonight.

Then after that, went to Midtown to meet my friend. We then got on the 6 train and headed down to China Town. On the way there, she got a few things off her shoulder about work. Sure does not make me want to get back to the real world too soon yet. All this talk of office politics, deadlines, annoying co-workers sure made me cringe. But one of these days I suppose I gotta get back into the corporate thing, but not yet. So when we got off the subway, I showed her the article about the dumplings and she picked one of the recommended spots. And let me tell you, that place was packed. The steamed dumplings were excellent, but not the 5 for $1 kind. These were like 8 for $4.50. When I ordered in English, the waitress muttered in Mandarin and gave me a dirty look. Curious, I asked what was said, and my friend said that she said "I should learn to speak Chinese". How dare she...News Flash - I'm not Chinese. But the dumplings were very good and made up for it. And of course you would think that you just popped them in your mouth. Big mistake, these dumplings had broth in them that just squirts and oozes everywhere. Almost burned myself eatin those dang things. It seems the proper way to eat the dumplings is to put it into one of those big soup spoons and take small bits while sipping on the broth that leaks out. I also got a dish of beef and some rice. After that just walked around abit and showed her The China Town Ice Cream Factory - but we were too full to eat.

Then I dropped her off at the closest A-C-E trains for her ride back to Jersey. I, on the other hand somehow got on the C instead of the E and ended up on 96th St. before I realized what happened. By that time the trains were few and far between, took me an extra hour to get back. That is what I get for reading the paper and not paying attention. But I could of swore that the train said E in the front. I think it was a consipracy by the MTA though. Just my two cents.

But anywho - got back around 10:00, watched Bowling For Columbine, which was pretty good but kinda long and went to bed. And as for tonight, off to another dinner/outing with this other group I got involved with. Some Italian place down by the LES I think.

Tune in on Monday to see how that went. Because, sorry I don't Blog on the weekends. Till then my friends - Have a great weekend.

Dumplings Perhaps

Well last night my roomates and I were gonna go the South Side Sea Port and hang out, but the rain gods did not agree. So we decided to go home and make quesadillas. And one of my roomates signed up for Netflix and he actually got 3 movies that I have been wanting to see, even though he as seen all three. I am loved, is all I can say. He got Kill Bill 1 & 2 and Bowling for Columbine. So we watched Kill Bill 1 while stuffing our faces with big bowls of our made to order sundaes. Also, set up the nice Toshiba TV out in the dining room. Sure is a nice one with built in DVD and VHS.

As for today, not much going on. Kinda tired though, seems like I got things going on everyday this week. I am about to leave to help a fellow co-worker put a table together at her apartment. Then after that I am meeting a friend of a friend - who is my friend now too I suppose. And guess where we are headed. That's right - back to C Town. Saw a nice article in Time Out NY yesterday about all the little dumpling houses, so maybe we will eat at one of those. You get five juicy and yummy - either steamed or fried dumlings for $1. Now that is a bargain!! Heck at those prices, I think I can even afford to treat. But we shall see where that friend wants to go. Because it is never about "me"...Alas the story of my life.

A bad haircut, meeting for two, free mismatched shoes and maybe a dead guy....

Yipee!!! It is Wednesday or aka HumpDay. Got up early today so that I can pick up the brand new tv from a very nice lady in Chelsea this morning.

But yesterday was more interesting. After work went to get my haircut. And let me tell you I have yet to find a good place for a haircut. I am so disappointed about this ordeal in NYC. But I guess that is what I get for going to places that charge under $20.

But anywho, after the haircut - had dinner at this deserted place in Chinatown. After that, went to a meetup event between the LES and Chinatown on Orchard. Only me and this other girl showed up. We ended up talking for about 1 1/2 hours before she had to go meet her brother. Nice girl and pretty cute as well.

Then after that, I took the R back home. On the walk back, I notice a group of people making quite a fuss by a bunch of garbage bags. As I was approaching, a police car came by with the sirens on and everybody scadaddled. At this point, I begin to make out what they are all carrying. It is shoes. Brand new shoes. The shoe store must of tossed out all the older styles of perfectly good shoes. I saw some pumas, adidas, sketchers. So I then head over to the pile of garbage only to see a few mismatched shoes that where too small. Too bad.

Then after I got home, I talked to some roomates that just got back from Atlantic City. They started telling me their story of witnessing a guy on a bike being hit by a car about 1/2 hour earlier. Seems like the guy just started riding his bike into traffic. They saw him fly through the air. Luckily an ambulance showed up about 1 minute later. They think the guy is dead. Wow....

So that was yesterday and today I am pooped.

Got a free TV

Went on Craig's list today and found someone giving away a brand new 24" tv with built in VCR and DVD. She bought the wrong size and the seller did not take it back. Gotta go pick it up tomorrow though. Pretty tired right now, but got to go to the lower east side tonight for a meetup function. Hope I am not the only one showing up. But first, I have to get a hair cut and some grub.

No longer a blog virgin

Just created my blog. How exciting...not really. I have been reading some random blogs the last few weeks and just thought...hmmm...might as well create one and see if I can get anybody else besides me to read my blog. So therefore the challenge is on. It is past five, so time to go home. Yipee!!!!!
